A fine observer of phenomena and realities formulated at the limit of the perceptible, Gamarț explores themes such as time, memory, space and, especially, light, as primordial matter. At the center of his artistic concerns are the relationships that are formulated between these elements and the way in which they are perceived or, on the contrary, omitted by the conscious receiver. The exhibition we refer to includes works from different creative periods, most of them made between 2013 and 2024. First of all, let’s tell you who Andrei Gamarţ is!

“I am originally from Chisinau (Republic of Moldova), where I also trained as an artist. In 2024 I graduated from the Academy of Arts in Chisinau, Painting department. In 2008 I settled in Romania, where I am active until now. Over time, I have had personal and group exhibitions in Bucharest, Chisinau, Brasov, Timișoara and internationally. The exhibition “Everything you saw will come true” is my first personal exhibition in Constanța and is the result of the collaboration between the Art Museum of Constanţa and Mobius Gallery, part of a larger project of the Mobius Gallery which involves bringing contemporary art to art museums in Romania. My sources of inspiration are varied. Working with the image, I am always surrounding myself with images, trying to understand how they work and then apply this knowledge to my own projects. It can be a text, a film, a situation, a certain light, some shadows, a word said in passing. The surrounding world is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for an artist. What I want, however, to capture in my creations is what is beyond the visible, thus bringing into discussion the experience of looking and the way in which active, immediate sight situates us in the world”, the artist declared, for “Cuget Liber”.

Why is the exhibition entitled “Everything you have seen will come true”? The title is inspired by Macbeth, from the scene with the witches who show Macbeth the future, a future that sounds like doom. “What exactly does this title mean, it’s a paradox. The act of seeing is not instantaneous, it is an action carried out over time. It is an image that unfolds, is configured, is fulfilled in a mental field, for an indefinite duration, it is an open work as Umberto Eco said. That’s why “everything you saw” is in the past tense and is projected into the future “it will come true”. What I have omitted here is the present, the here and now, as fragile and fleeting as it is intense and unpredictable. To feel in the present, aware of yourself and the world around you, is a difficult test”, explained Andrei Gamarţ. He stated that his artistic practice is carried out on several levels: object, video and sound installations, but especially oil painting.
