More than 90% of the localities in Romania have less than 15,000 inhabitants, and this means that the operators will have to comply with the new law. In Chitila or Gruiu, the operators will be obliged to lock the door. The bans will be practically removed even from bars and cafes, in case of contract the operators who will not comply will risk fines between 10,000 and up to 200,000. The application of the law could also have an adverse effect, namely the development of the industry even more in big cities but also online. The online gambling industry until now had a profit of 10 billion euros per year.

How some operators cheat the law

The most recent statistics show us that in Romania gambling is played by 15% of adults, and over time this can become a true addiction. Most European states have even partially or completely banned advertising for this industry.

In some localities, companies have found a loophole to circumvent the law: they take certificates from the mayor’s office with the number of residents in the UAT. The initiator says that he plans to amend the law so that the false issuance of these certificates is considered a criminal act, with a penalty of between 1-3 years in prison.
