Earthquake in Vrancea. What magnitude was the earthquake?

An earthquake occurred on Sunday morning, at 06:43, in the Vrancea seismic zone, according to data published by the National Research and Development Institute for Earth Physics (INCDFP).

The earthquake had a magnitude of 3.3 on the Richter scale, felt in several areas.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 86.2 kilometers (km), in the vicinity of the following localities: 41 km west of Focșani, 67 km north of Buzău, 69 km east of Sfântu-Gheorghe, 82 km east of Brașov, 93 km south of Bacău and 95 km southwest of Bârlad, according to INFP.

Starting from April, 29 earthquakes occurred in Romania, with magnitudes ranging between 2 and 3.9 on the Richter scale.

On Friday, April 26, another earthquake occurred in the seismic zone of Vrancea, Buzau. The earthquake was weak, with a magnitude of only 3.5 degrees on the Richter scale.

The earthquake, produced at 02:05, occurred near the following cities: 55km W of Focșani, 59km SE of Sfântu-Gheorghe, 61km NW of Buzău, 68km E of Brașov, 84km NE of Ploiesti.

Also, on Saturday, another earthquake occurred in Moldova, Galati, with a magnitude of 2.1 degrees.

Earthquake of 5.7 degrees in Gorj

In 2023, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 occurred on Tuesday in Oltenia, Gorj, just one day after another with a magnitude of 5.2.

The earthquake was followed by two aftershocks of 3.4 and 3.5.

“There are two unexpected earthquakes for this area and they are the largest recorded here,” said seismologist Mircea Radulian from the National Institute of Earth Physics, who said that there will be aftershocks, which should not exceed magnitude 4.
