The authorities are conducting an investigation after a 6-year-old child, from a commune in Gorj County, was taken out of Romania and taken to Germany using false documents, according to sources cited by Agerpres.

The checks in this case started after DGASPC Gorj received an address from the National Authority for the Protection of Child Rights and Adoption, in April of this year, according to which a child had been sold and taken to Germany.

“Immediately the procedure was started according to the legislation in force, the institutions empowered to verify the reported issues and intervene according to the legal powers, being, in this case, DIICOT, notified. The representatives of DGASPC Gorj went to the family home together with the representatives of the local authority to evaluate the socio-family situation. It was established following the intervention and discussions with the legal representatives that the minor in question is not at home. It was found that there are still two minors at home, minors who were taken over shortly by the representatives of DGASPC Gorj together with the Police representatives, and the measure of special protection was instituted for them – emergency placement with professional foster carers”, he declared for News.ro, spokesperson of DGASPC Gorj, Minodora Sucea.

Local sources told News.ro that the first data from the investigation show that the little boy, who turned six in March of this year, was sold for a sum of several hundred lei.

The child’s father is an alcoholic, and the mother seems to have mental problems, the authorities who went to the family home found.

The boy’s older sister and younger brother were found there. The girl is eight years old, and the youngest brother is two years and eight months old.

Both are now in foster care and following a psychological counseling program. The authorities requested other medical investigations for the two children.

The General Director of DGASPC Gorj, Laurenţiu Diaconescu and the Minister of the Family, Natalia Intotero, visited the minor’s two brothers at the home of the foster assistants, having discussions with them.

The child is now in the care of the German authorities and the procedure to bring him to Romania is to be carried out.

“I got in touch with the president of the National Authority for Child Protection and requested an emergency trip to Germany to be able to hold on-site discussions with the German authorities in order to expedite the repatriation of the minor to the country, as he is a Romanian citizen. I also had a discussion with Mrs. Minister Odobescu in this regard, so that all steps for the move are urgent,” Intotero told Digi24.

DGASPC Gorj officials specified that “after clarifying the legal situation of the minor in Germany, the institution will intervene in taking him over and establishing a special protection measure”.
