The Blood Transfusion Center (CTS) Vrancea has announced that it will accept blood donations, this week, only from loyal donors in the last three years, due to excess stocks of blood products.

“Considering the surplus stock of blood products compared to the needs of patients, during the week of April 1 – 5, 2024, loyal donors from the last three years will be accepted to donate, and initial donors will be postponed for this week”, it is stated in a announcement of CTS Vrancea, reports Agerpres.

If until the end of last year, CTS Vrancea was constantly facing problems regarding the provision of blood stocks from the medical units in the county, starting from January 1, when the value of the vouchers for donors was increased from 67 to 280 lei, the number of people willing to donate blood almost tripled, so the representatives of the medical unit had to limit the daily number of donors.

According to CTS Vrancea, the unit relies on around 4,200 loyal donors over time.

In the first two months of the year, more than 1,400 people showed up to donate blood for the first time.

Such record attendances for donating blood have only been recorded in Focşani in the event of national tragedies, such as the fire at Colectiv or, more recently, the explosion at Crevedia.
