After in 2023 the Romanian authorities paid late and with difficulty the financial aid for the people from Ukraine refugees in our country following the war, this year the situation is repeated, informs Council Tower.

Anya has been in Sibiu since August 2022. She works and has a child enrolled in the education system. He says that the money he was supposed to receive last year was transferred to him in February, and this year he hasn’t received anything.

The representatives of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) confirmed the situation of the delay of this money.

“Our institution has taken steps towards the hierarchically superior structure, in order to allocate the necessary funds, since the moment of receiving the requests from the local public administration authorities, currently there is no objective possibility of estimating a date when we will receive the requested amounts”, they showed IGSU.

In Sibiu, according to the organizations that kept track of these refugees, at the end of last year there were between 3,500 and 4,000 Ukrainians.

“We are the only ones left, those who work. I was lucky that my husband also works there in Ukraine and we managed with two salaries. But if it was just my salary, we wouldn’t have managed,” she says.

The story repeats itself this year, because, in the months of January, February and March, the Ukrainians who are refugees in our country have not yet received help from the Romanian state.

“You can’t get by on one salary. I chose to stay for the peace and safety of myself and my child. He is enrolled here, in Sibiian education, and I want him to continue his studies”, says Anya.

The Romanian government modified, starting from April 2023, the conditions and the mechanism for granting this aid.

A family of Ukrainian refugees consisting of three people should receive from the Romanian state 3,800 lei per month for accommodation and food, and a single person can collect an amount of 1,350 lei per month (600 lei for food and 750 for accommodation ).
