Crews with road duties have intensified their checks on the consumption of alcohol and narcotics, with intensive traffic checks showing an increasing percentage of drivers getting “dizzy” behind the wheel

Three more drivers were caught in Galati County within just a few hours, under the influence of alcohol, one of them not even having a driver’s license. Those who risked their driver’s license, freedom and safety are a 68-year-old man from Munteni commune, detected in Gohor while driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.68 per thousand, a 29-year-old man from Tecuce, detected in the middle of the night , behind the wheel, with a blood alcohol level of 0.58 per thousand, but also a 26-year-old man from Braniștea, only a little drunk, with 0.30 per thousand, but who was driving without a license. The first two drivers arrived at the hospital for biological samples, they were left without their licenses and are being investigated for driving under the influence of alcohol. The third is also being investigated for rushing to drive before obtaining a license. “He was fined 3,300 lei for driving under the influence of alcohol, 3,300 lei for the lack of periodic technical inspection of the vehicle, and 2,000 lei for the lack of mandatory RCA car insurance. The registration plates and the car registration certificate were seized”, added chief agent Ciprian Stoica, the spokesperson of IPJ Galați.

Alcohol and drugs, declared “unacceptable”

Given that the number of drivers who drive with “impaired” senses is increasing, the police from Galata draw attention to the fact that both the consumption of alcohol and the consumption of psychoactive substances can affect driving skills, causing a decrease in reactions, coordination and ability decision-making, significantly increasing the risk of a road accident.

“Both the consumption of alcohol and psychoactive substances before driving are unacceptable and represent a serious danger to road safety. It is essential that all drivers always obey road traffic laws and avoid consuming alcohol or psychoactive substances before getting behind the wheel. We recommend all drivers to plan ahead of time traveling on the roads in safe conditions, to use taxi services or to designate a driver in this regard”, stated IPJ Galați representatives.

At the end of last week, several drivers were detected in Galati with blood alcohol levels exceeding 1 per thousand in breath. One of them was detected for driving at excessive speed in the city and fled from the police, being chased by several crews.
