--

The residents of Oncea are opposed to the construction of a road link through the neighborhood that would connect the Paleu area and the industrial area on Borşului Road.

“We’re fed up!”

River residents have launched a petition asking the municipality to abandon the project since the spring of last year, when the Oradea City Hall announced its intention to develop the new road.

“We have arrived, in a safe, quiet and beautiful city, to feel insecure… If a road or a parking lot is built over us? We are tired of projects and proposals made from Cluj…”, it is mentioned in the petition made by a resident of Oradea on the specialized website petitieonline.com, which had collected 174 signatures by Tuesday afternoon.

Although the City Hall had only announced the route of the future road – without details regarding the expropriation of a showroom in Matei Corvin Street (photo below)of two uninhabited houses, dozens of meters of fences and 66,000 square meters of private land – at the end of last week, the signatories of the petition spoke out, without exception, against the project.

River residents fear that the construction of a new road through the neighborhood will destroy the tranquility of the area.

“I don’t want to hear about demolitions, since the news came out everyone is stressed. It’s a totally useless road, it’s just destroying us”, protested the signatory of the petition, Iosif Szabo.

The residents of the area consider the investment useless. “It is unlikely that a significant number of Paleu residents will need to reach Uzinelor street,” wrote Eugen Mitra from Oradea.

It will make dust and noise!

Residents of the Soarelui and Oncea neighborhoods, affected by the route of the future road, fear that the future road will destroy the tranquility of the area.

“I don’t agree with this project. It increases air pollution, spoils the beautiful image of the area, increases noise pollution and is useless,” protested Jozsef Szabo.

The arguments against the future track are many.

“I don’t agree because: there are winding streets, they affect the tranquility of the residential area, the Cartierul Soarelui park (no – next to which the artery will pass) it is full of old people who will be exposed to the dangers of injury. In addition, in the Oncea area, on the asphalted streets, people are already driving at a very high speed”, Gabriela Jurjea also wrote.

Orădeanca said that the Oradea City Hall and the Traffic Police rejected several requests from the residents to install speed limiters on the streets in the area.

Widen the CFR bridge!

The people of Oradea said that, rather than building a new road through the two neighborhoods, the investors, Oradea City Hall and Bihor County Council, would do better to capitalize on the current connection between Paleu and Calea Borşului through Suişului, Ion Bogdan streets and the ring road.

“I don’t see the usefulness of this road, when there is an express road nearby and considering that traffic jams are created under the CFR bridge, where there is only one lane in each direction,” wrote Alexandra Gheţe.

The protesters demand, instead, the widening of the railway bridge from the entrance to the city from Matei Corvin street to Ştefan cel Mare street and the widening of the road that crosses it from two to four lanes.

“It would be much more useful and simpler to solve, only it involves the CFR, widening the entrance to the city from Episcopia by changing the CFR bridge. It is a bottleneck (no block) there, three strips are made into one, from which again four. From the belt, people can go directly to Borşului”, wrote Csaba Nagy from Oradea.

It remains as I have established…

As the Bihor he also wrote, the mayor Florin Birta and the president of the Bihor County Council, Ilie Bolojan, announced last Wednesday, in a press conference, the project of a two-lane road, 3.1 kilometers long, which would connect, with an overpass over the street Matei Corvin, Paleu commune of the industrial area in Calea Borşului.

The investment, worth 79.6 million lei, will be co-financed with about 40 million lei by the Bihor County Council, which would attract money for the construction of the overpass through the Regional Operational Program.

The initiators of the project support its necessity all the more since the widening of the railway bridge at the entrance to Ştefan cel Mare boulevard, a project to be implemented by SNCFR, does not yet have a concrete horizon.

“At the “cooking” from passing under the railway (no – from Matei Corvin street) the problems will be solved only in the coming years, when the line will be modernized and electrified”, said Bolojan.

The route of the new connecting road was approved, on March 28, by the Oradea Local Council, with the exclusive vote of PNL councilors. The project is to be debated by the Bihor County Council in one of the next meetings.
