Vaslui: Ukrainian citizens, caught trying to enter Romania illegally after swimming across the Prut

Border police officers from the Berezeni Border Police Sector detected two men from Ukraine who crossed the Prut river by swimming, with the intention of obtaining some form of protection from the Romanian state.

According to a press release sent, on Monday, by the representatives of the Territorial Inspectorate of the Border Police (ITPF) Iasi, during the day of Sunday, the border police were informed by phone, by a local resident, a border policeman transferred to the reserve, that on the shore of the Prut river, approximately one kilometer away from the border town of Bumbăta, noticed two men who did not justify their presence in the area.

Specific measures were taken at the level of the sector, in the shortest time the two were discovered not far from the indicated place, while they were hiding in an irrigation channel. Not being speakers of the Romanian language, the two persons were taken to the headquarters of the sector to clarify the situation. Following the conducted investigations, it was determined that the two men, aged 38 and 32 respectively, are of Ukrainian nationality and that they illegally crossed the state border, swimming across the Prut River from the Republic of Moldova to Romania, with the intention of obtaining a form of protection of the Romanian state’, states the quoted source.

The police are investigating and will take legal measures.
