Caught with 62 kg of fish in the car. Two men were detained, being investigated for fish poaching on Olt

Two men were detained by the police after they were caught in the car with 62 kg of fresh fish, illegally caught from the Olt River.

On the night of March 29/30, police officers from the Avrig City Police, together with representatives of the Sibiu AJVPS, carried out a specific action to prevent and combat fish poaching on the Olt River, the IPJ Sibiu representatives announced on Monday.

Around 04:00, in the area of ​​the Racovita Hydroelectric Power Station, the police stopped a car in which there were two men, the driver, aged 44, and the passenger, aged 33, both from Vâlcea county.

As a result of the control carried out on the car, an inflatable boat, several fishing nets, with a total length of 800 meters, made for illegal fishing, but also the amount of 62 kilograms of fresh fish (carp, bream, barbel) were found and catfish), which the two men would have harvested from the Olt River, on the same night.

In the case, the Aurigen police have opened a criminal file in which investigations are being carried out under the aspect of committing the crimes of commercial or sport fishing without a license or authorization, possession, transport or sale without legal documents of fish from fishing, respectively fishing with other tools or tools unauthorized.

Based on the evidence provided, the police took the measure of detaining the two men for 24 hours.

The goods and fish found in the car were seized for confiscation and the car was impounded.

The investigations are continued at the level of the Avrig City Police, under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Avrig Court.
