Nicholas David Ionel, ranked 264 ATP, was defeated, on Saturday, by a player ranked 1433 in the world ranking, Aristotelis Thanos, in the second match of the meeting in Athens Greece – Romania, from the play-off for maintaining in Davis Cup World Group I. As a result of this result, the overall score of the meeting is 2-0 for the Greeks.

Thanos prevailed with the score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in two hours and 17 minutes.

In the first match in Athens, Marius Copil, ranked 283 ATP, was defeated by world number 10, Stefanos Tsitsipas, score 6-3, 6-4, in one hour and 17 minutes.

Sunday will start with the doubles match in which Stefanos Tsitsipas / Petros Tsitsipas and Marius Copil / Victor Vlad Cornea will play (12.00), and then the singles matches will be played: Stefanos Tsitsipas – Nicholas Ionel and Aristotelis Thanos – Marius Child.

This is the third Davis Cup meeting between the two teams, each having one win. In 1933, Greece won 4-1 in Athens in the second round of the Europe zone. Romania won in 1970, with 5-0, in Bucharest, in the quarters of the Europe zone, the victories being achieved by Ilie Năstase, Ion Ţiriac, Viorel Marcu, Sever Mureşan and the pair Ilie Năstase/Ion Ţiriac.
