Antonia Maria rushed to come into the world four months early.

Andreea Pascal, mother: It all started at 24 weeks, after the morphology of the second trimester, where I had pregnancy-induced hypertension and the result was a lack of fluid. Everything was caused by the placenta, which is why I had to have an emergency operation, to remove the baby, to give it a chance.

She was discharged after 95 days

The weight of only 390 grams amazed even the doctors who did everything possible to keep her alive and help her develop outside the mother’s womb. She ended up in Intensive Care, where she received treatment and special food and was monitored non-stop.

Andreea Pascal, mother: She stayed in the incubator for 95 days, and feelings of helplessness, because I saw her there and I couldn’t do anything to her, I couldn’t touch her, sadness, because it happened much too soon, happiness , when I heard that he was gaining weight, that he was eating, all kinds of feelings.

The neonatologist who took care of the little one admits that this whole period was not easy at all. He celebrated the moment of discharge with his family.

Now the little girl weighs over 2 kg

Georgia Ioana Oglindă, neonatology primary doctor Constanța: I also had moments of panic that I got through well. We all fought from the smallest to the largest so that everything turned out perfectly. As a result, this child went home healthy, weighing 2,545 grams

The rate of children born prematurely in Romania exceeds 10%, compared to 8% worldwide. Taking care of the little ones who come into the world too early means very difficult periods for the parents, sustained efforts on the part of neonatologists, but also high costs for the health system.

Cătălin Cîrstoveanu, neonatologist: With us, the average care time is about thirty days, because we have patients with a long hospital stay. Some stay six months, some a year. I have had patients who even stayed in the hospital for three years.

The smallest baby in the world was born in Singapore in 2020. He was 212 grams, 24 cm long and was discharged after 13 months of treatment.
