In just a few months, Romania will have its first new airport in 30 years. The first flights will take place starting in June this year, and the destinations are surprisingly diverse for those who choose to go on vacation from Brașov and its surroundings.

Ghimbav Airport, near Brașov, will open its doors this summer, with the first flights planned starting from June 2023. These will be operated by Dan Air Romania and will be regular, broken down by day of the week, according to Boardingpass.ro.

Where will you be able to fly from Brașov?

The list of flights that will be operated from Ghimbav airport starting from June 2023 is as follows:

Brașov – Barcelona – Brașov (every Tuesday);

Brașov – Brussels BRU – Brașov (every Wednesday);

Brasov – Budapest – Brasov (every Tuesday, Sunday);

Brașov – London LGW – Brașov (every Friday);

Brașov – Milan LIN – Brașov (every Monday);

Brașov – Munich – Brașov (every Saturday);

Brașov – Stuttgart – Brașov (every Thursday).

All flights will be carried out with Airbus A320 aircraft with a capacity of 174 seats, of which 162 seats in the economy class and 12 seats in the business category.

The new airport opens at a very good time for air travel, after the year 2022 brought an 87.5% increase in the flow of passengers through Romania’s airports, 21 million people. In 2019, the best year in tourism, we were talking about 23 million passengers. Next, Henri Coandă is the largest and most important hub in this category, with 12.5 million passengers in 2022, followed by Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Timișoara and Suceava.

“For civil aviation, the last few years have been very difficult, but now we have managed to recover above the forecasted figures. It was a strong return, especially in the summer months, when some airports in Romania recorded higher traffic values than in 2019. There is great potential and we estimate that next year we will exceed 24 million passengers, and if we talk about long-term estimates, we expect that in 2040 the Romanian airports will register almost 50 million passengers”, said David Ciceo, president of the Romanian Airports Association.
