Carl Weathers, the actor who became famous for his role as Apollo Creed in the “Rocky” film series and also known for his appearances in “Predator” or, more recently, “The Mandalorian” series in the Star Wars universe, has died at the age of 76 for years, informs CNN.
The actor “passed away peacefully at home” on Thursday, his agent Matt Luber said. The cause of his death has not been made public.
“Carl was an exceptional person who lived an extraordinary life,” his family said in a statement released to CNN. “Through his contribution to film, television, the arts and sport, he left his unique mark and became a figure recognized around the world by different generations of fans. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner and friend.”
Carl Weathers was an American football player who had a brief professional career with the Oakland Raiders and the Canadian Football League. In the 1970s, Weathers gave up football and devoted himself to his film career.
After the success of the ‘Rocky’ films opposite Sylvester Stallone, Weathers became a household name in action films in the 1980s, culminating in his role in ‘Predator’ (1987), starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. More recently, Carl Weathers also starred in the series “The Mandalorian” (2019-2023), the first action series inspired by the Star Wars universe.
