Actress Margot Robbie, the star of 2023’s highest-grossing film Barbie, has reacted to the scandal after she was not nominated for an Oscar for best actress, the BBC writes.

The film received eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. But fans were dismayed that Robbie was overlooked for the lead role.

But Robbie, who is also one of the film’s producers, said Wednesday that the nominations did not upset her. At a special SAG-AFTRA event, the actress said, “You can’t feel sad when you know you’re so blessed.”

She stated that the film’s mission is to “change the culture” and that this is the “biggest reward” that came from the film’s success.

Robbie has hinted that she is upset that director Greta Gerwig did not receive an Oscar nomination for directing, however. Gerwig was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. “Obviously, I think Greta should be nominated as a director,” she said. “What she’s done is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime achievement. What she’s accomplished, she really is. But it’s been an incredible year for all movies.”

Best Supporting Actor and Best Actress in a Motion Picture nominees Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera both expressed their disappointment that the two women were not nominated.

“To say I’m disappointed they’re not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement,” Gosling said last week, adding that “there’s no Ken without Barbie and no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie.”

Barbie received nominations for Best Original Song, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design.

“We set out to do something that would change the culture, make an impact. And it has already done that and even more, much more than I ever dreamed of. And that’s really the biggest reward that could come out of all of this,” Robbie said.

In total, the movie “Barbie” received eight nominations, including for best picture.

Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” – another huge box office hit – leads with 13 nominations.

Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr were nominated for Best Actor and Nolan for Best Director.

“Poor Things,” about a child whose brain is transplanted into an adult woman’s body, was the second most nominated film with 11 nominations.

The 96th Academy Awards will take place on March 10 in Los Angeles.
