A new type of bus circulates these days through Cluj-Napoca. It is about a bus with hydrogen-based fuel cells, which the people of Cluj can test until Friday.

Those interested in a unique journey can take the hydrogen bus today, May 10, 2024, from any station on lines 30, 45 and 35.

The initiative is part of a tour to promote hydrogen buses, as part of the JIVE projects supported and financed by European funds through the Clean Hydrogen Partnership.

Thus, the pioneering initiative was launched by the local authorities of Cluj-Napoca, in partnership with the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (UTCN).

The hydrogen bus will leave Cluj to be tested in Galati and then in Greece, Bosnia Herzegovina and Bulgaria.

In addition to the local authorities, UTCN Rector Prof. Dr. Eng. Vasile Țopa was also present at the launch, who mentioned that the Technical University fully supports the efforts, both locally and internationally, to promote transport solutions innovative involving the technologies of the future.

“I am very happy that we are joining the Cluj community again through the expertise of the specialists we have, who have been involved in this project and many others of this kind.

We really have a team dedicated to this field, moreover, UTCN is part of the hydrogen HUB that brings together several Romanian universities and research institutes, so that the hydrogen area will be one of research for the future. I congratulate this initiative and assure you of all our involvement and support”, said Prof. Dr. Eng. Vasile Țopa.

This initiative perfectly aligns with UTCN’s research and innovation in sustainable technologies and energy solutions of the future, especially in the field of hydrogen, in which the university is actively involved.
