Volodymyr Zelensky fired the head of his personal protection department on Thursday after two of his agents were arrested this week in an alleged assassination plot.

He published a decree for the “dismissal of Serghii Leonidovichi Rud from the position of head of the Department of State Protection in Ukraine”.

He does not specify the reason for the dismissal of Serghii Leonidovici Rud, nor has he appointed a replacement in this extremely sensitive position, according to News.ro.

The SBU has announced that it has arrested two colonels from the Department of Body Guards, suspected of having passed secret information to the Russian Security Service (SBU).

One of them provided shells, drones and anti-personnel mines to an agent tasked with carrying out these attacks, according to the SBU.

Serghii Leonidovici Rud, aged 47, headed the Department in charge of the Personal Security of the president and other officials and their families since 2019.

Zelensky has been a target of Russia since the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine. He said last year that he was aware of at least “five or six” foiled assassination plots against him.
