The series of safety incidents seems to be unending for Boeing. Three Boeing planes were involved in incidents on Wednesday, including one in Dakar that left 11 injured, while a fourth aircraft made by the American company encountered problems on landing in Antalya on Thursday.

In the most serious of these incidents, a Boeing 737-300, with 78 passengers on board, violently overshot the runway during takeoff from Blaise Diagne International Airport in Dakar, Senegal. In a press release, the local authorities announced that eleven people were injured. Four of them are in serious condition.

In a video posted on social networks, the fuselage of the Boeing belonging to the Senegalese airline TransAir appears to be badly damaged.

Blaise Diagne airport management announced that an investigation was opened to determine the causes of the accident. “The re-opening of the airport is expected in the next few hours”, added the airport management.

The accident occurred after a Boeing jet was forced to land in Istanbul without its front wheels earlier on Wednesday after the landing gear failed to open.

Also on Wednesday, an Air France Boeing 787-900 had to divert its route and make an emergency landing at Iqaliuit, in the far north of Canada, after a burning smell was detected in the cabin.

New incident with a Boeing plane on Thursday in Antalya

The Turkish Transport Ministry announced Thursday afternoon that the front wheel of a Corendon Airlines Boeing 737 exploded, causing damage to the landing gear, as it landed at Antalya’s Alanya-Gazipasa Airport.

“All our relevant units were on the ground and on alert. Thank God, there were no injuries among the 184 passengers and 6 crew members,” said Abdulkadir Uraloglu, Turkey’s transport minister.

All flights scheduled to land at Alanya-Gazipasa Airport on Thursday were diverted to Antalya’s main airport or other nearby airports.

Corendon Airlines said in a statement that the plane landed safely on the runway shortly after the wheel burst.

Since the beginning, these Boeing-made planes have been involved in a series of incidents that have raised questions about their safety and led to investigations in the United States, including in Congress in Washington.

The head of Boeing has announced that he will resign amid the incidents involving the company’s planes

Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun announced on March 25 that he will step down by the end of this year as part of a broader plan to restructure his leadership following the dramatic series of incidents involving the company’s planes.

The planemaker also announced that Stan Deal, president and chief executive officer of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, will also step down and that the business will be led by Stephanie Pope, currently Boeing’s chief operating officer.

Calhoun has been under pressure since earlier this year, when a door on a Boeing 737 MAX came off mid-flight after the panel supporting it failed, an incident still under investigation by aviation authorities. Preliminary results of the investigation suggest that 4 of the screws that were supposed to secure the door were not installed.

But a series of dramatic incidents that followed intensified pressure on him and led to an investigation into the company in the United States legislature.

US regulators have ordered Boeing to limit production as it tries to fix safety and quality problems.
