There’s an old saying: “April showers bring May flowers.”

But in Auburn this week, the showers have extended into May.

The 2024 SEC Softball Tournament entered an “extended delay” Thursday morning that affected Thursday afternoon’s quarterfinal game between seventh-seeded Georgia and second-seeded Florida.

Just after 2 pm, https://twitter.com/SEC/status/1788630873929077242 between border rivals would be moved to 10 am Friday morning.

Thursday’s two earlier quarterfinals — No. 8 LSU vs. No. 1 Tennessee and No. 4 Arkansas vs. No. 5 Mizzou — will be played Thursday, with the former beginning at 6:02 pm ET.

The Gators and Bulldogs, along with No. 3 Texas A&M and No. 11 South Carolina, were moved to Friday.

The semifinals, which were scheduled for Friday, will not be moved. This means the winner between UF and UGA will have to play a doubleheader. First pitch in that semifinal is set for 35 minutes after the conclusion of the first semifinal, which begins at 4 pm Friday.

The extra day of rest will be welcomed by Georgia. The Bulldogs second round game with No. 10 Auburn went a full 14 innings, with UGA’s Sarah Gordon blasting a walk-off homer for the 6-5 win.

Florida, meanwhile, received a double-bye in the tournament and hasn’t taken the field since a three-game sweep of Texas A&M Sunday.
