Some Romanians have taken their minds off vacations in an attempt to cope with excessive expenses. Others limit themselves to a vacation or two a year.

Those who can still afford multi-day trips complain about the high prices and hope to find better deals.

It is the case of a Romanian who asks for ideas of destinations for a city break that fit within a budget of 500 euros. With this amount they would like to pay for the plane tickets and accommodation. He also indicated the places ticked so far, in a post on Facebook.

“Please, can you give me ideas for a destination for a city break, for the month of August, that could fit in a price of up to 500 EUR/person (accommodation and plane tickets)?

I have been to Barcelona, Valencia, Rome, Bari, Amalfi Coast, Lago di Garda, Athens, Prague, Paris, Vienna, Istanbul. We would have really liked London, but the prices of plane tickets are quite high, and in Lisbon I think the same. Maybe there are other ideas”, he wrote on the group Vacanțe do it yourself.

In the comments, he received several suggestions from members of the group. Someone suggests using an app to have more options.

“Put the dates in a ticket application and leave the destination blank, and see what you find cheap. You may find cheaper a month in advance, but in London I think accommodation and transport and food are also expensive, not only the tickets, the tickets can they get cheaper, accommodation, etc. I don’t think. Pisa and see 5 terre. Brussels and you can see Bruges and others through Belgium, Holland and it’s even cooler.”

Some doubt that it could reach the announced amount.

“In August by plane, accommodation and food, 500 people? Hmmm”

“With less than £500 I went to Paris for 4 days for Christmas, 2 people, accommodation plus plane, it’s possible”.

“Baden-Baden Germany! Karlsruhe Baden-Baden Airport close, they have Therme, Casino, Theater, green paradise nearby, the possibility of visiting Karlsruhe and Strasbourg (they are easily accessible by train or Flixbus).”

“Or even Strasbourg, a superb city, cheaper accommodation than in Freiburg or Baden-Baden, but with easy access to the latter, and if you have children, don’t miss Europa Park.”

“Craiova is left.”

“Nice, Monaco, Cannes. The whole Côte d’Azur… It’s beastly.”

“Budapest. It’s a train”

Another idea excludes the plane, for lower prices.

“You can try wizz on Basel and from there to Colmar and Strasbourg”.

“Ryanair has cheap tickets to Genoa. Besides the city itself, you can also visit Portofino and Cinque Terre.”

“Oslo, Budapest, Sibiu”.

“Budapest. It’s a train. And you have something to see and relax.”

“Since it’s August, a very hot month, you have to go somewhere to the beach, to be able to cool off if needed, or through northern Europe (Sweden, Norway, Italy – Como area).”

“Bologna, from where you can also go to Ravenna.”

“In Cyprus you can find cheap tickets with Ryanair and decent accommodation… Similarly, Albania with Wizz is a destination to consider”.

“Sicily (Catania) or Budapest.

Batumi (Georgia) – I’ve read great things about this destination but you need to do your research before flying there.

Thessaloniki/Kavala may delight you.”

“Instead of Lisbon, try Porto and from Porto the train to Lisbon.

Or

Plane ticket to Dortmund and another plane from there (prices ok)”.

“Belgrade, if you get your plane tickets in time”

“I recommend Malta, Burges, Nice, Palermo, Genoa.”

“Tickets for London search with landing on Luton, directly from the wizzer app…London is expensive for the rest…you can get good tickets for the price.”

“Belgrade, if you buy the plane tickets in time, you can find them for 150-170 return without checked luggage. Accommodation is around 80 euros near the center if taken in time.”

“Search on skyscanner with the destination “everyone” and you will find variants.

From Bucharest you can fly to Thessaloniki under €50, Milan & Venice under €80, Zadar in Croatia €100, Tirana €40, Paris €100, Izmir €80…”

“Madrid- 160 euros with a package, accommodation 3 nights 180 euros/2 = 90, one day Madrid, one trip with get ur guide 45 € segovia, toledo, avila. You can, if you are “runners” take a morning flight until the evening with 60-70 euros you can go to Granada and see the barn.”

“For London you can also find cheaper flights, but the rest is extremely expensive. We came back 2 days ago and hadn’t been in a good few years, so we were surprised by the prices. Does Budapest seem trivial to you? We were the last last year and we liked it. It would be Pisa with Florenza and Cinque Terre: very nice and decent prices compared to London or Paris!”
