Accident on the set of “The Pickup” with Eddie Murphy

Two crew members were hospitalized and several others were injured in an accident after a car and truck collided on the set of “The Pickup” while filming a sequence, indiewire reported .com. The Eddie Murphy production, made for Amazon’s MGM studios, is filming near Atlanta.

According to the Associated Press, a source described the whole thing as a “freak accident” and said the sequence had been rehearsed with proper safety precautions.

Of the two team members who were hospitalized and whose names have not been released, one required a longer hospital stay. Injuries included swelling, bruising and broken bones, according to the AP. As for the other crew members who were injured, they are expected to make a full recovery, the same source reports.

The sequence involving the accident was shot by the non-star cast crew. Eddie Murphy and the other main actors, Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson, were not on the set at the time of the accident.

Filming continues

“Unfortunately, the sequence did not go as planned and several members of the team were injured. We are still gathering data on what happened and why, but first and foremost our thoughts are with those who are recovering. The well-being of the entire crew and cast is our first priority and we will continue to insist on the highest industry safety standards during filming. All safety precautions were reviewed prior to filming and monitored during filming.” a spokesperson for Amazon MGM studios said in a statement to IndieWire.

Amazon’s MGM studios did not release details about the injuries or the people involved. Representatives of the union representing the film crew told IndieWire that they, in turn, have begun an investigation into the accident.

The Pickup, directed by Tim Story, also stars Andrew Dice Clay, Eva Longoria, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Jack Kesy and Marshawn Lynch. The film does not yet have a release date, but the Associated Press reports that production is not expected to be delayed by the accident.

In February, a plumber, JC “Spike” Osorio, died after falling from a rafter on the set of the Marvel series “Wonder Man” in Los Angeles.
