How the new Android invention works
Included extensions include modes such as Auto, for automatically adjusting camera settings; Bokeh, for blurring the background; face retouching; HDR, which extends the exposure range; and Night mode, to improve photos taken in low light conditions.
The quality of these extensions can vary significantly between different manufacturers. For example, Samsung uses advanced solutions for all extensions, while Google, on Pixel devices, prefers to limit extensions to preserve a natural look of images.
A limitation of previous versions of the API was that extensions were only available for image capture, not video, resulting in low video quality, especially in terms of image stabilization. Android 15 will introduce a new extension called “Eyes Free videography” specially designed for video capture, which will include improved stabilization and other advanced features such as selective focus and frame tracking.
These new features are meant to increase the functionality and versatility of Android devices, giving users richer options for photography and videography, even on affordable devices.
