The new sports director of the Rapid Bucharest football team, Daniel Sandu, stated, on Thursday, in an interview broadcast on the official YouTube page, that the group from Giulești is a solid club from a financial point of view and that it does not live from the sale of players, while admitting that there will be departures this summer.

“There will definitely be departures, there are discussions, everyone knows which players could leave. Naturally we are willing to listen to any discussion regarding our players, but it has to be the right offers for both us and the players to have an effect from our side. We are a financially stable club and we don’t have to live off possible transfers”said Daniel Sandu.

The FC Rapid official confirmed that they are also in discussions for the purchase of some Romanian and foreign players, but it is also possible to return some footballers on loan to other teams.

“Certainly most of the players on loan will return to Rapid, they will be checked by the new staff, and from there the decision will be made by me and the staff, which player we rely on and who we don’t. Most of them are ‘unders’ and we have to see exactly the positions we need in the next season.

“There will definitely be transfers in all departments, we need to strengthen the defensive department. I hope that the lists we have prepared so far will help us and the players we have highlighted to succeed in bringing them to us. It will be a mix of Romanian and foreign players, as usual. There are Romanian players whom we follow closely and with whom we have discussions and foreign players. I think that the balance between Romanian and foreign players in the team is appropriate and this rhythm must be maintained”.

Daniel Sandu, promoted from the position of head of the scouts, also explained the duties he will have from the position of sports director.

“I’m glad to have this opportunity, it’s definitely a big step. Coming from the scouting area, automatically the pressure on the part of recruiting players is very high, but it is clearly the dream of every scout at some point to reach this position and I believe that the experiences so far have helped me to understand much better this position.

“My job description does not only include the part of recruiting players, practically I have to make sure that everything around the team and in the team is in order, and here I mean from the medical staff, to training camps, to the conduct of the players or staff, for everything related to physical training, data tracking.

“What I am trying to implement is that the decisions of the coaches or the future scouting team are based on very clear interactions, we have to understand very well what we are looking for and what we want. The moment is not very good after the evolution in the play-off, but I hope that from next year we will show our true face”, said Sandu.
