Klaus Iohannis left for a visit to the USA today, writes BoardingPass, a website specialized in aviation news. The president used the same luxury jet he used last year in Africa and South Korea.
The President of Romania will make an official visit to the United States starting on May 6, 2024, according to unofficial information, claims BoardingPass, an aviation information site.
“Iohannis will start his journey on Monday, not from Bucharest, and will probably fly to Washington DC with a private Gulfstream G550 plane operated by Global Jet Luxemburg”, says the quoted race.
According to the cited source, “the plane will be the same with which the president of the country flew in 2023 during official trips to the United Arab Emirates (March 2023) and during the “African tour” of Kenya, Tanzania, Cape Verde and Senegal (November 2023), but also in April 2024 in South Korea”.
Iohannis, ironic: “I don’t know how you define a luxury plane”
The list of the 29 foreign trips made by President Klaus Iohannis in 2023 is impressive. The presidency spent 24.5 million lei more than in 2022.
Klaus Iohannis’ travels cost the Presidential Administration 8 million euros last year, and the luxury planes hired for this purpose take off most of the time from Sibiu.
“All my trips are announced, timely, in the interest of Romania and in full compliance with the legislation in force”, declared Klaus Iohannis recently, regarding his trips.
Asked why he chose to make all these trips with a luxury plane, the head of state chose to be ironic: “I don’t know how you define a luxury plane. I came with a small aircraft”.
