The Gorj County Electoral Office admitted nine candidates for the head of the County Council. Cosmin Popescu, the current president, is running for a third term, from the PSD. The electoral campaign for the June 9 local elections begins today and will end on June 8 at 7:00 a.m.

The following candidates entered the electoral battle for the head of the Gorj County Council, in the order of submission of files to the BEC Gorj: Dumitru Miroiu (PUSL) – pensioner, Ion Iordache (PNL) – senator, Adrian Zorlescu (AUR) – engineer, Cosmin Mihai Popescu (PSD ) – president CJ Gorj, Nicolae Davițoiu (United Right Alliance USR-PMP) – administrator, Alexandru Marius Motohonu (SOS Romania) – referent, Marcel-Petrică Iacobescu (Green Party) – parliamentary adviser, Constantin Pănescu (National Christian Alliance) – manager tourism and Raul Ștefăniță Dumitru (PRM) – entrepreneur.
For the positions of county councilors, 11 political formations submitted lists of candidates, including the UDMR and the Romanian Ecologist Party, which also did not propose a candidate for the CJ Gorj presidency.

Lottery for ballot order
BEC Gorj announced that on May 11 the order of the ballots will be established: “In application of the provisions of art. 58, para. (8) from Law no. 115/2015, on 11.05.2024, 10:00 a.m., the order number on the ballots used in the County Electoral Circumscription no. 20 Gorj for the election of the Gorj County Council and the president of the Gorj County Council, in the order resulting from the drawing of lots carried out by the president of the Electoral Bureau of County Circumscription no. 20 Gorj, in the presence of the majority of its members”.
On Friday, May 10, the electoral campaign begins, which will end on June 8, 2024, at 7:00 a.m.
2024 is the first year that all elections are held in the same year. Local and parliamentary elections are held every four years, while the elections for the MEPs and the President of Romania take place every five years.
