Begun in the spring of last year, the works on the road junction in the Argeș commune of Bascov, which will connect the Bucharest-Pitesti highway and section 5 of the Sibiu-Pitesti highway, are going at a very good pace, already exceeding 66%, as stated for the “Truth” officials from CNAIR.

The road crossing from Bascov is an essential one for the road infrastructure in our country, because it will connect two essential highways, greatly reducing the travel time, for example, from Bucharest to Sibiu. At the present time, and due to the congestion on the Olt Valley, the Bucharest-Sibiu distance is covered on average by a car in three and a half hours. After the passage from Bascov and the Sibiu-Pitesti highway will be completed, the time will be reduced to no more than two hours.

CNAIR representatives told “Adevărul” that they hope that the Bascov road crossing will be completed by the end of this year.

And there are good signs in that regard. This week, the installation of the 40 prefabricated beams at the passage in the area of ​​the Bascov road junction was completed. Each of the 40 beams has a minimum length of 35 meters. And the representatives of CNAIR provided exclusively for “Adevărul” spectacular images from the installation of the large beams.

According to the project, the overpass from Bascov will cross over the intersection that will remain on the ground in the form of a large roundabout.

Specifically, at Bascov, the A1 highway will continue towards Curtea de Argeș with an overpass, followed by section 5 of the Sibiu-Pitesti highway, and the roundabout under the highway will have two lanes on the ground.

If the works go according to the schedule assumed by the contract signed in May 2020 and no unforeseen problems arise, section 5 Curtea de Argeș – Pitesti will be ready by the end of this year, eight months earlier than the deadline of August 31, 2025 stipulated in the contract.

Section 5 Curtea de Argeş – Pitesti will include, among other things, three road junctions, a viaduct, six passages and 12 bridges, plus two road coordination and maintenance centers (at Bascov and Curtea de Argeş). The value of the contract amounts to 1.7 billion lei without VAT, an amount secured from non-refundable European funds.

As for the entire Sibiu-Pitesti highway, it must be completed by the fall of 2028.
